Here we have a 3str leather sofa which has a large area of colour loss, this damage has been caused by body perspiration this is a very common problem, the oils from the skin seep in to the leather reaching deep in to the fibres of the leather causing a large grease build up.
The only way to resolve this is to remove the grease build up without removing the grease build up the repairs would fail very quickly.
It is just as important to start regularly maintain the leather as recommended by the furniture manufacturers. As habits do not tend to change it is very important the repaired areas are looked after and maintained failure to do so could mean reoccurrence of the failed area, this would not be a result of the works undertaken but a result of how the leather has been looked after.
Here we started with a deep clean of the leather this enables us to know that the leather service is clean,
We then use a solvent cleaner called leather prep, what this does is removes the manufacturing top coat which is a lacquer, this enables us to start with the repairing process.
Leather Degreaser is then applied which allows the grease from the fibres of the leather to be brought to the surface of the leather, this is repeated until there is no more grease in that leather panel, failure to do this would mean the leather dyes would not adhere to the leather.
Adhesion Promotor, is applied, this help add extra adhesion to the leather allowing the leather dyes to have the additional strength to the leather dye.
On this occasion we had to apply various shades of dye to duplicate the mottled leather finish so it matched the remainder of the leather sofa, our technicians are extremely good at colour matching so we don’t need to recolour the whole sofa to try and blend in and make the repairs look suitable.
Lacquer is applied which allows for a strong finish in this case because of the body perspiration damage we use a solvent finish as this is much stronger than a water based polyurethane finish and in touch dry much faster we do always advise the customer to allow a few days to fully cure off but your be amazed how many people are touching the repairs while we are removing our equipment from the home.
Picture Perfect, as with all repairs we undertake we take before and after pictures to show how the furniture was found and how it was left along with information on how the furniture should be cared for moving forwards, along with this we provide a receipt showing the work we have completed.
